It’s been six years since the U.S. Supreme Court made its landmark ruling, making same-sex marriage legal.  But that ruling doesn’t apply to sovereign nations in the U.S. – including the Eastern Band of the Cherokee on the Qualla Boundary.  

A year before the Obergefell decision, the Eastern Band Tribal Council passed a resolution codifying the tribe would only recognize marriage between a man and woman. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are telling members of the LGBTQ community to "exercise extreme caution" after two transgender women have been killed under similar circumstances in the Charlotte area in the last 11 days.

CMPD is not sure if the homicides are connected, but said both victims were transgender women operating as sex workers, and both were found shot to death in hotel rooms.

A project to document the lives of LGBTQ+ people in Western North Carolina is expanding.

The LGBTQ+ Oral History Archive was founded at UNC Asheville in 2019 in partnership with the Blue Ridge Pride Center. Now the project is expanding to Western Carolina University, says Travis Rountree.

A major provision of the bill that repealed North Carolina’s notorious HB2 expired this week.

In 2017, North Carolina lawmakers passed a “compromise” to repeal North Carolina’s HB2 – commonly known as the ‘Bathroom Bill’ because it made people use the bathroom of their gender as assigned at birth.

The Campaign for Southern Equality(CSE) has announced that it is opening up an additional round of funding for LGBTQ Southerners who have been impacted by COVID-19.

 This will bring the total amount available for the program’s COVID-19 Rapid Response Grant Program up to more than $200,000 since March.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina's state health department is barred from allowing public funds to pay for conversion therapy for minors, a controversial practice aimed at changing young LGBT people's sexual orientations, under an order signed Friday by Gov. Roy Cooper.

Advocacy groups praised the Democratic governor's executive order as a pioneering step to restrict the therapy in the U.S. South.
