On Thursday, Buncombe County officals kicked off its new weekly meetings to update the public on Coronavirus(COVID-19).

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is reporting the first influenza-associated pediatric death for the 2019–2020  flu season. Health officials say a child in Western North Carolina died in December from complications associated with influenza infection. To protect the family’s privacy, no further information regarding this child will be released.

The state Department of Health and Human Services is reporting that the flu is now widespread with a high intensity across North Carolina.

State figures show a rise in the rate of children in Buncombe County opting out of required vaccinations.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that about one in 20 kindergarten students at the beginning of this school year had opted out of immunization, a higher percentage than the previous year. Almost all claimed religious beliefs.
