WNC Nonprofit Welcomes Hard To Recycle Items

Jan 17, 2019

In 2018, the nonprofit Asheville Greenworks kept more than 161,000 pounds of hard to recycle materials out of the landfills in Western North Carolina.  During free events held throughout the year in Buncombe County,  volunteers collected everything from televisions to empty toothpaste tubes.  The organization is kicking off it's first  Hard 2 Recycle event of 2019, on Saturday, January 19th in West Asheville.

These are the items that absolutely cannot go into the recycling bin”, says Eric Bradford who is Director of Operations at Asheville GreenWorks.   The event is free, although there is a drop-off charge for some items.  CRT television sets and monitors require a $10 recycling fee per unit payable by cash.

The cost of recycling Styrofoam is at an all-time high, says Bradford.
