UPDATED 12:00 p.m. - Buncombe County authorities are investigating the cause of a fire Tuesday afternoon that belched a dark plume of smoke seen for miles in Buncombe County.
The first reports of the fire came at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon at a warehouse owned by the Metropolitan Sewer District. The warehouse is located by a water treatment plant in Woodfin. Smoke could be seen for miles late Tuesday afternoon until darkness set in. Fire crews from across the region spent the night putting out the fire.

A plume of thick, dark smoke could be seen for miles following a fire at a warehouse at a Metropolitan Sewer District treatment plant Tuesday afternoon.
The first calls and photos of the smoke occurred around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. A short time later, the Asheville Fire Department tweeted it was helping Buncombe County fire departments in fighting a three-alarm fire on Riverside Drive.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. Smoke could be seen in downtown Asheville, and all across Buncombe County.
