New Mayors of WNC: Preston Blakely of Fletcher

Nov 15, 2021

Preston Blakely is in his first term as a city council member for the town of Fletcher.  But by the end of the year, the 27-year-old will be mayor of the town of over 8-thousand in Henderson County.

Blakely won this month's election for mayor of Fletcher.  He spoke with BPR's Matt Bush about what he sees are the biggest issues he will tackle as mayor, what his most favorite part of Fletcher is, his grandmother WNC civil rights pioneer Oralene Simmons, and his masters degree work at Western Carolina University where he one of his professors was a certain political analyst very familiar to BPR listeners.  You can hear the whole interview above, and tune in every Monday morning at 7:45 to hear from another new mayor in Western North Carolina.
