Greta Johnsen Heading to WBEZ in Chicago

Dec 8, 2014

WCQS Morning Edition host Greta Johnsen signs off December 16.

WCQS Morning Edition host and reporter Greta Johnsen has accepted a job hosting weekends at WBEZ in Chicago. Her last day at WCQS will be December 16. Please join WCQS in wishing her well in this tremendous career opportunity.

Listeners were quick to warm to Greta when she signed on as WCQS Morning Edition host in July of 2013. Since then, she's produced reports on everything from beekeeping to Billy Graham and filed features for NPR. News Director David Hurand has high praise for Johnsen. “Greta has been a joy to work with," Hurand said. “She has a very bright future and will be missed.”

“I will miss Asheville terribly and must visit as often as I can," Greta said. "This is a remarkable place, and the community here is astounding."

Greta grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska and is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Minnesota.  She earned a Master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Chicago. "I may live to regret saying this, but I’ve really missed winter," Greta said.

WCQS listeners will still be able to enjoy WBEZ's Nerdette Podcast, which Greta co-hosts.
