Tom Byrne

Tom Byrne has been a fixture covering news in Delaware for more than two decades. He joined Delaware First Media in 2010 as news director for WDDE’s online predecessor, DFM News, overseeing the launch of the news service and guiding its two-year expansion and transition to WDDE News. He leads Delaware Public Media’s reporting, editing, and on-air staff and is responsible for daily news operations and coverage decisions.

A Philadelphia native, Tom was the sports director at WNBI-AM/FM in Park Falls, Wis., before moving to Delaware in 1990. For the next 20 years he worked as sports editor and anchor at WILM Newsradio in Wilmington and served as a reporter, producer, sports editor, anchor, and host for WHYY-TV news programs in Delaware.

Tom’s work has been honored by the Delaware Press Association, the Associated Press, the Philadelphia chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, and the National Federation of Press Women.

When he’s not in the office, Tom can be found reading history or pursuing his love of all things athletic.
