HCA Healthcare Independent Monitor To Host Virtual Public Meeting In April

Franklin residents shared concerns about HCA Healthcare during January 2020 public meeting with the independent monitor.

The HCA Healthcare independent monitor has announced it will be hosting an online public informational meeting next month.

The firm, Gibbins Advisors, was appointed by the North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein to oversee HCA Healthcare’s compliance with the terms of its 2019 purchase of Mission Health System.

The independent monitor held seven public meetings at the start of 2020 to explain the role of the firm and hear from the community.  Many community members shared concerns that services had changed across the Mission Heath System since the sale. These meetings took place before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

Dogwood Health Trust board members said that the foundation worked with the independent monitor to investigate the community’s complaints such as changes in sexual assault nurse examiner services at Angel Medical Center, transitional care services at Transylvania Regional Hospital and HCA’s charity care policy. Ultimately, Dogwood said that HCA Healthcare did not violate the terms of sale in 2019.

Dogwood was created as a nonprofit foundation to help improve the health of the region with the profits of Mission Health’s sale to for-profit HCA Healthcare. The foundation works with the independent monitor. Here are the new 2021 Dogwood Health Trust Board members.

The virtual meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 7th at 5:30 p.m. The independent monitor team will discuss its role, provide an update on its work, and present the opportunity to ask questions.

You can registration to attend online at https://www.independentmonitormhs.com/register.

The meeting will be recorded and shared on the independent monitor’s website after the event.
