(2/7 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 796,195 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 4,674 from the day before.  2,378 people are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 90 from the day before.  9,983 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 57 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 41,047 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 685 deaths, an increase of 236 cases and 5 deaths from the day before.

(2/6 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 791,521 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 4,172 from the day before.  2,468 people are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 55 from the day before.  9,926 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 85 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 40,811 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 680 deaths, an increase of 245 cases and 10 deaths from the day before.

(2/5 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 787,349 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 5,547 from the day before.  2,523 people are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 107 from the day before.  9,841 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 113 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 40,566 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 670 deaths, an increase of 244 cases and 4 deaths from the day before.

(2/5 9:00 a.m.)  The Buncombe County Board of Education voted Thursday evening to move all students to a hybrid of remote and in-person classes starting February 15th.  The decision comes two days after North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper called for schools to being re-opening to students.  Under the Plan B model, students in Buncombe County schools will have in-person classes two days a week - Group A on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Group B Thursdays and Fridays.  Those who have opted for all-remote instruction will continue to receive it.

(2/4 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 781,802 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 5,495 from the day before.  2,630 people are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 76 from the day before.  9,728 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 50 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 40,322 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 666 deaths, an increase of 251 cases and 30 deaths from the day before.

(2/3 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 776,307 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 12,079 from the day before.  According to state officials, this new daily case increase record is due to a large number of cases not previously reported to the state from FastMed Urgent Care clinics from December and January.  2,706 people are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 35 from the day before.  9,578 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 169 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 40,071 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 636 deaths, an increase of 658 cases and 4 deaths from the day before.

(2/2 1:30 p.m.) The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is kicking off a new live stream talk series to address and provide updates on the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan on Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.  NCDHHS Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D. will host the inaugural fireside chat featuring Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II as its first guest.   The event will stream live on the following: 

(2/2 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 764,228 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 2,926 from the day before.  2,741 people are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 40 from the day before.  9,409 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 51 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 39,417 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 632 deaths, an increase of 182 cases and 5 deaths from the day before.

(2/1 12:30 p.m.) North Carolina has reported 761,302 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 3,776 from the day before.  2,781 people are currently hospitalized, a decrease of 1 from the day before.  9,342 have died from COVID-19 in the state, an increase of 7 from the day before.  In the 13 North Carolina counties in Blue Ridge Public Radio's listening area, there are 39,235 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 627 deaths, an increase of 207 cases and 1 death from the day before.

(2/1 9:30 a.m.) An outbreak of Covid-19 has been identified at the Cherokee County Detention Center. Seven staff members and 28 inmates have been confirmed positive for Covid-19. Cherokee County Health Department tested all staff and sixty-eight inmates. All are isolated and none are hospitalized. The Detention Center remains fully staffed with a nurse on site. The Sheriff’s Office continues to work with the Health Department including additional testing as needed.
