Duke Division Buys 6 Solar Sites in Georgia

Duke Energy

Duke Energy's commercial energy division has bought six solar projects in Georgia. Duke Energy Renewables acquired the sites from solar developer SolAmerica Energy of Atlanta for an undisclosed sum.

The sites are in five rural Georgia counties: Hancock, Decatur, Johnson, Ware and Wilcox. All the power will be sold to Georgia Power under a 30-year contract.

“In acquiring these solar sites, we add Georgia to our growing U.S. renewables footprint," Rob Caldwell, president of Duke Energy Renewables and Distributed Energy Technology, said in a press release.

Altogether, the six sites will supply a total of 4.7 megawatts of electricity - enough to power just over 500 homes. That makes this a smaller deal compared to others Duke Energy Renewables has done.

Duke Energy Renewables sells solar and wind energy to companies and other utilities. It now has more than 40 solar sites and 20 wind projects in a dozen states, generating a total of 2,700 megawatts of electricity.
