Wake County Judge Mike Morgan and Incumbent Bob Edmunds move on to the November election.

A field of candidates vying for a spot on the state Supreme Court has been cut in half.

Incumbent Bob Edmunds and Wake County Judge Mike Morgan received the top two vote totals on Tuesday.

Edmunds carried about half of the vote, while Morgan received roughly a third of the support.

They will square off in November for a seat on the seven-member court.

Legal followers say this race could swing the balance of the state’s high court.

Edmunds is a conservative and his vote has led to a 4 to 3 split in recent years. Morgan is a Democrat.
