Early Voting Underway for North Carolina Primary

North Carolina’s early voting period for the March 15 primary is now underway.  Voters can register and vote early at election sites between now and March 12th.  For more, WCQS’s Jeremy Loeb spoke with Buncombe County’s director of elections Trena Parker.

Parker says people registered with a certain political party must vote in that party’s primary but unaffiliated voters aren’t left out.

Trena Parker:  “Unaffiliated voters can choose a ballot in which to vote.  A lot of unaffiliated voters think they can’t participate in the primary but they can.  They’ll be asked which ballot they want to vote when they go the polls.”

This is the first election in which voters will be required to show photo ID.  Voters who couldn’t get an ID can cast a provisional ballot if they cite what’s called a “reasonable impediment” to getting one.  But voters who DO have ID cannot just show up without it.  Voters will be deciding their choice for president and statewide races, including a major 2 billion dollar bond measure with a large portion of the money going to universities across the state.

You can find voting locations and hours by visiting your county’s board of elections websites.  Here is the link for Buncombe County.
