Revenue generated by the North Carolina Education Lottery has increased annually since the games were approved by State Lawmakers. But residents of Western North Carolina don’t play the games at a rate as high as people in other parts of the state. The Executive Director of the Lottery, Alice Garland says it’s unclear why that is the case. She added that since its inception, the lottery has generated $58 million for education in Buncombe County, nearly $16 million for Haywood County, and nearly $7 million for Henderson County. Garland spoke at a recent meeting of the Council of Independent Business Owners in Asheville. She told David Hurand the North Carolina Lottery is the only lottery in the country that has recorded uninterrupted growth.
