Election Day is Upon US

It’s election day across the US, and that includes municipalities and cities in Western North Carolina.

In Asheville, two candidates are running for mayor: Vice Mayor Esther Manheimer and former city employee John Miall.

There are also five candidates vying for the city’s three city council seats-- Cecil Bothwell, Mike Lanning, Gordon Smith, Jonathan Wainscott and Gwen Wisler.

Polls are open until 7:30 p.m. for voters in Asheville and Buncombe County’s other incorporated municipalities.

The State Board of Elections web site says there are more than 1,100 races and questions on ballots in 94 counties across the state.
