Open positions on Asheville boards and commissions

Community Reparations Commission is made up of community members from Asheville and Buncombe County. This virtual meeting took place July 18, 2022.

The City of Asheville is calling on residents to take active roles in their governance through one of 18 boards or commissions accepting applications for new members. Most bodies meet once or twice a month, and community members have an opportunity to share their insights and opinions on a variety of city matters. A complete meeting schedule is available from the City Clerk.

Residents of the City of Asheville are given priority in appointments. The positions are unpaid, volunteer roles.

Candidates for the following boards should apply by April 2, 2023 for consideration of appointment on April 11:

  • Alcoholic Beverage Control Board
  • Audit Committee 
  • Civil Service Board 
  • Homeless Initiative Advisory Committee 
  • Housing Authority 
  • Mountain Community Capital Fund 
  • Neighborhood Advisory Committee 

Candidates for the following boards/commissions should apply by April 30, 2023:

  • African American Heritage Committee
  • Airport Authority (Greater Asheville)
  • Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority 
  • Civic Center Commission
  • Historic Resources Commission
  • Human Relations Commission
  • Multimodal Transportation Commission 
  • Neighborhood Advisory Committee
  • Planning and Zoning Commission 
  • Public Art and Cultural Commission
  • Sustainability Advisory Committee
