Jingle Throw Down With BJ Leiderman

NPR’s very popular news program, Morning Edition, heard daily on WCQS, is inviting listeners to create their own versions of the program's longtime, iconic theme music composed by Asheville’s BJ Leiderman. Regular Morning Edition listeners have heard the familiar theme every weekday morning since the show's first broadcast in 1979.

WCQS Morning Edition listeners now have the chance to create their own version of the show's theme music. Pick your genre: rock, hip-hop, R&B, country, even EDM. You can create a new arrangement of one of the themes or remix one. The Morning Edition staff at NPR will comb through submissions, and their favorites will make it on the air in the coming weeks. (They aren't looking for one to replace the current themes.)

But wait! There's more! WCQS will host a live broadcast jingle throw down with the NPR theme music guru himself BJ Leiderman. Participants will be selected by WCQS staff  from their Morning Edition theme submissions.

To get in on the fun, post your NPR submissions on SoundCloud with the hashtag #morningeditiontheme and then submit the link using the NPR form here. To be considered for the local jingle throw down with BJ Leiderman, email the SoundCloud link to WCQS at  metheme@wcqs.org.For more information call 828-210-4800.

P.S. Did you know the Morning Edition theme music had words? Check out BJ Leiderman's larky lyrics here.
