This one-hour celebration in story and song is a celebration of  Kwanzaa. Hosted for nearly 20 years by acclaimed storyteller Madafo Lloyd Wilson, this annual special captures the tales and traditions of African American and African peoples.

THE PLAY OF HEROD
Noah Greenberg and the NY Pro Musica’s legendary recording of this Medieval musical drama which was first staged in 1965 at The Cloisters in New York City – 90 minutes.

TOAST OF THE NATION

An NPR tradition every New Year's Eve since the 1970s, Toast of the Nation is the perfect audio complement for the occasion. It's jazz that you can party to, all night long with countdowns to midnight in all four continental time zones. Spirited, improvised, grooving and swinging, each segment is a stop in a sequence of celebrations, contributing something new to the musical feast.

NEW YEAR’S DAY FROM VIENNA 2016

The Vienna Philharmonic presents its ever popular annual New Year's Day concert, live, from the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna. You'll hear your favorite waltzes, polkas and more -- a festive way to start off the New Year. It's presented by NPR Music and hosted by WBUR's Lisa Mullins. (Encore broadcast Jan. 5, 7 pm.)

POLITICS TAKES A HOLIDAY: THE CAPITOL STEPS NEW YEAR’S SPECIAL
