Downton Abbey Splendor Comes Alive at Lex 18: Benefits WCQS

We may not yet have the ability to time travel, but Lex 18, Appalachian Fine Dining Supper Club and Moonshine Bar, gave a close approximation recently. On January 4, Lex 18 hosted the first of 9 Asheville Downton Abbey Vintage Costume Banquet and Viewing Parties. A portion of the proceeds will benefit WCQS. This past Sunday WCQS All Things Considered host Helen Chickering did the honors.

Our own Josh Jourdan traveled back to 1924, presenting his hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ellington, with a modern contraption called the radio. The gathered crowd was in awe of the beautiful and mysterious 'talking box.'

Guests enjoyed a vintage cocktail hour and a lovely five-course banquet, following by a viewing of the Season 5 premier of Downton Abbey on PBS.  A great time was had by all. In the morning it was 2015, but for one night guests supped and dined like the Crawley family, circa 1924.

If you're hoping to get a ticket, you'll be sorry to hear that all of the eight remaining vintage banquets are sold out.

Our thanks to Lex 18 for hosting these wonderful parties and for supporting WCQS Western North Carolina Public Radio.
